ART + TECHNOLOGY + EDUCATION

The three elements that drive what we do.

We teach media and technology in order to help our students develop self expression, skills and ultimately job prospects. Find out how you can get involved in any of our projects. Whether you’re visiting Salta or live far away, there are opportunities for you to take part.

Adobe Youth Voices

Adobe Youth Voices -- Taking It Global

Taking It Global with Adobe

Cloudhead is thrilled to be a 2012 recipient of Adobe Youth Voices‘ Taking It Global grant. Adobe supplies software, training and support that we incorporate into all of our youth media projects. Together we aim to inspire, inform and involve our students as they become more aware of themselves and by extension, their communities.

If you’re interested in getting involved with any of our programs check out our Volunteer Information page

Or send an e-mail to leigh@cloudhead.org and let us know your interests.

Wichi/H20

Wichi/H20

See through the eyes of an indigenous child in northwest Argentina.

You donated your unused digital cameras. We gave them to indigenous Wichi children in NW Argentina. They took photos, we sell those photos online.

All profits from sales go directly to build gardens and dig wells for the children who take the photos and their families. Right now, we have 10 gardens, some already on their second harvest. We are working toward 20 gardens total and 2 wells to support 4 villages and approximate 600 people.

Wichi/H20 works in partnership with Alejandro Deane from Fundación Siwok. We are also a 2012 recipient of Burning Man’s Burners Without Borders community development award.

English through Social Media & Photography

English Through Social Media & Photography

Before you communicate, you have to have something to say. We give our students a reason to speak.

We developed a content-based English language curriculum for students 12 years and older designed to mimic visiting a foreign country where you don’t speak the language. All classes are taught in English, and students must turn to dictionaries and other sources in order to understand.

We recently partnered with Franklin Institute of English, one of the most highly regarded English language institutes in Salta.  Together we are exploring indigenous Salteño culture. Each class chooses a topic — language, music, legend, community, art — and then prepares an art project based on what they have learned. We work with the students to help them develop their projects with the goal of preparing the best of them for display in Salta museums and online.

Jovenes Construyendo

Jovenes Construyendo Con Jovenes

Somos progtagonistas!

This program, funded by the Argentine Ministerio de Desarrollo Social takes place in Barrio Solidaridad, an underserved neighborhood on the outskirts of Salta. We teach an extra curricular workshop where we take photos and video, then edit the raw media in Photoshop, Premiere and iMovie into short films and photography exhibitions to be shared with others in the neighborhood and online.

Our short term goal is to create a fun environment that keeps our students off the streets and away from drugs and crime. The long term goal is support the members of this group as they become leaders in their community.

Most exciting. Students from the first year of the program have returned for a second year. We see how they have gained confidence as they help lead this year’s workshops.

Juvenile Detention

Juvenile Detention

So new, this program doesn’t yet have a name.

We’ve begun a series of photography and art workshops at a local juvenile detention center. Many of the people we work with have been incarcerated for crimes related to paco, a particularly destructive drug found on the streets in Argentina and nearby countries.

We incorporate art therapy into our program to address some of the short and long term affects of drugs and incarceration.

One of the most immediate benefits. Those in the program see that there is a world beyond the immediate environment as they exchange notes, photography and drawing with others from around the world.
